“The Butler: A Witness to History” Author Wil Haygood to Speak

California State University, Dominguez Hills welcomes Wil Haygood, author of “The Butler: A Witness to History,” to campus on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

“An Evening with Wil Haygood” will take place in the Loker Student Union Ballroom and will include a keynote by Haygood beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a book signing at 7 p.m.

“The Butler: A Witness to History,” written in 2013, expands on Haygood’s 2008 essay in the Washington Post about Eugene Allen, an African American man who spent more than three decades as a White House butler. That article also inspired the 2013 major motion picture featuring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”

The event is open to all students, faculty, staff and the public and is being presented by Toro Productions, the Multicultural Center, Associated Students, Inc, Office of Alumni Programs, College of Arts and Humanities, University Bookstore and University Housing.

  1. This will be a wonderful event to bring to the students of Dominguez Hills. I am curious to see if he is happy with the rendition of Lee Daniels version of “The Butler”.
