“We want to congratulate you on winning an award for your hard work. There were a record number of entries —388 in all—and your excellent achievement stood out among a large pool,” wrote Lishelle Blakemore, CASE VII Awards of Excellence co-chair, in a message announcing the award.

“It is really wonderful for the university to receive this award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education,” said Greg Saks, vice president for university advancement. “Recognition of the work performed by our staff is even more significant when you consider the caliber of institutions in our CASE district.  It is always wonderful to be recognized by our peers.”

For consideration in the Year-Long Special Events category, a university’s event had to include multiple activities centered on a theme, such as an anniversary, inauguration, or fundraising campaign. The CSU Dominguez Hills University Advancement staff collaborated on all aspects of the 50th anniversary celebration, which included events, lectures, receptions, special programs and exhibits that began in January 2010 and will culminate with the 2011 Commencement in May. The celebration was designed to honor the rich history of the university, its achievements, and plans for the future. The celebration received tremendous support from the campus and surrounding community.

CASE is an international association of professionals who advance educational institutions. CASE District VII represents the western region of the United States and includes Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands and Utah.

The CASE District VII annually recognizes excellence and best practices in alumni relations, fundraising, public/government relations, advancement services, special events and outstanding communications. The entry was judged by a panel of experts who examined each entry for quality, creativity, innovation, adherence to professional standards, and success in meeting stated objectives.

The University Advancement staff will be presented with the award at the Awards of Excellence luncheon held at the 2011 CASE VII District Conference on March 4 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
